While I know each of you hopes to attend, I understand the demands of life (work, finances, and prior travel plans, to name a few) may prevent you from attending. No worries. We will miss you. 

As a reminder, do not tell Christine you are sorry to miss her birthday celebration because this gathering is a surprise.  And don't tell her you are excited to attend.  THIS IS A SURPRISE!!!!!!
